Liu Jingwen: BCBUU's AACSB accreditation and BUU’s soft science rankings help me get offer from Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University

Liu Jingwen, a BCBUU graduate of class 2023 in Information Management and Information Systems

It wasn't until March this year that I started applying for master's programs at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). I applied for the project management major at XJTLU Business School and the digital education major at the School of Education. And I got the offer of the project management major in mid-April.

The reason I applied to XJTLU is because I found that the students who were admitted in previous years had backgrounds similar to my own. For example, the application requires: College diploma, degree certificate, transcripts with an average score above 80, letters of recommendation and resumes, etc. In terms of major selection, the courses of information management majors are similar to those of project management majors; in terms of resume, I have rich practical experience during my college years, such as winning awards in college students' innovation and entrepreneurship competitions and CP Group Cup of Market Research, as well as multiple internship experience in a technology company and educational institutions. These are all bonus points for professional learning and hands-on activities.

My application in March was already late, and the number of applications for XJTU this year is very large, so the admission thresholds for various majors were also raised. For applicants who don't have qualified language certificates, XJTLU didn't issue conditional admission notices as in previous years, but put them on the waiting list. This meant that if these applicants didn't submit their language scores on time, they would either be rejected outright, or they would wait on the list and see the number of spots dwindle. This put a lot of pressure on those of us who applied late.

In addition to qualified language scores, XJTLU Business School is more inclined to admit students whose universities are ranked among the top 300 in this year's National Soft Science Ranking. For applicants whose universities ranked lower in this ranking, the chances of successful application were not good, while BUU ranked around 270+, which helps me screen out a large number of competitors.

The reason I got the offer so quickly is because I was not asked to attend the interview. XJTLU's project management major often has an interview before admission, mainly to check the students' professional level and ability. As far as I know, many students with similar grades to mine were asked to attend the interview. The reason why I don't need an interview is mainly because XJTLU's business school, like BCBUU, has passed AACSB accreditation, and the courses of information management majors are highly consistent with those of project management majors. XJTLU has confidence in students from AACSB accredited business schools.

In general, I think the reason my application process was so smooth and fast was because of our college's AACSB accreditation and its positions in national soft science rankings. BCBUU is the alma mater that every graduate is proud of. The four years of studying at the college are very short, and it felt even shorter due to the epidemic. However, I was lucky to come to BCBUU and meet many professional and warm-hearted professors who not only gave me very professional and comprehensive teaching in the course, but also gave me correct and critical guidance for my life. I am grateful to BUU, BCBUU and all the professors and classmates who helped me. I wish all my schoolmates who want to continue their studies great success and be able to enter their ideal schools in the future.
