BCBUU Holds 2021 Forum on Rural Revitalization and the Digital Economy
On Nov 26, 2021 Forum on Rural Revitalization and the Digital Economy was held on BCBUU campus. The forum invited renowned experts in this area from Ministry of Agriculture, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Beijing Forestry University (BJFU), frontline county leaders from Tongguan, Shaanxi province and Woxian and Jixian, Shanxi Province and many entrepreneurs to discuss topics such as rural revitalization, industries development, and digital economy empowerment. Mr. Yin Fubin, vice chair of the College Council, and Prof. Chen Jianbin, executive dean, Prof. Zhang Mingxian, vice dean, attended the forum with faculty and students of Center for Rural Revitalization Economic Research (CRRER), BCBUU. More than 100 guests joined the forum online or offline from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Guizhou University, Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences, Henan Institute of Science and Technology, Shanghai Wubo Technology Ltd. etc. The forum was organized by RRERC, with the co-organization of Big Data Business Application and Innovation Research Center and E-commerce Department, BCBUU.
Prof. Chen gave a brief introduction to BCBUU and the actions it adopted for rural revitalization at the opening. CRRER was established just in June this year, but has already hosted a couple of important research and academic exchange activities ever since then. This forum is aimed to connect the national policy, expert intelligence, and local demands by setting up a communication platform for them and laying a solid foundation for the future work of the center.
Mr. Zhang Hongyu, chairman of China Agricultural Risk Management Society and vice dean of China Institute for Rural Studies, Tsinghua University, Mr. Xiao Jincheng, researcher with China Academy of Macroeconomic Research, chairman of Regional Science Association of China, and adviser to the People's Government of Fujian Province, Mr. Qiu Aijun, deputy director and researcher with China Center for Urban Development, NDRC, and Prof. Yu Ji'an with College of Economics and Management, BJFU, delivered their keynote speeches respectively titled “Revitalizing industries: the top priority in rural vitalization”, “An important way to revitalize rural areas: the integration of three major industries”, “Three Focuses of the Rural Revitalization”, and “Industrial development models in rural vitalization”.
Mr. Yin Fubin, presented a report, “Smarter distribution of agricultural products: a key project for Beijing modern agricultural products circulation”. Dr. Xiu Yuanyuan, director of CRRER, gave a brief introduction to rebate projects for local administrations from central government in her “Interpretation of application policy and approval process of national Agriculture and Forestry Poverty Alleviation Funds”.
Prof. Zhang concluded the forum with a phrase of “reaching for the sky by standing firmly on the ground”, emphasizing the long way ahead towards the success of rural revitalization. Great breakthroughs require full cooperation between research institutions, local governments and enterprises based on deep understanding of the national policy and the real situation with new ideas, approach, and innovative use of technology, working modes.
Mr. Xie Xinmin, director of Woxian County Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Shanxi, and Mr. Zheng Ning, deputy director of Tonguan County Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Shaanxi, shared with attendees their experience and knowledge generated in the practice of implementing rural revitalization strategies and digital transformation of agriculture and rural areas, as well as their opinions and suggestions in these areas.
This hybrid forum gathered scholars and experts, entrepreneurs, and local leaders with digital technology, offering an opportunity of interdisciplinary and cross-boundary communication. It deepened and broadened the exchange between academia and industrial circles as well as the cooperation between universities and local governments. Meanwhile, it is also helpful for BCBUU to achieved its mission by producing a positive impact on the society with its intellectual contributions.
