A 30-Year Review: Academic Seminar on Evolving Business Climate in Post-Soviet States
On November 13, BCBUU held a session of its Research Workshop series, inviting Mr. Wang Chungang, a senior expert from the Ministry of Commerce, as the keynote speaker. The session was presided over by Yin Fubin, Chairman of the College Council, and attended by faculty members and 2025-entry graduate students.
Mr. Wang, formerly a Second-Level Inspector of the General Office of the Ministry of Commerce, drew on his long-term overseas posting experience to walk the audience through the evolution of political economy and the business environment in the five Central Asian states and the three South Caucasus states since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. He reviewed the real-world challenges that Commonwealth of Independence States faced over the past three decades — political turbulence, economic contraction, weak legal frameworks, and widespread corruption — and, in light of the current landscape, analyzed new developments in areas such as political stabilization, economic growth, legislative progress, and cooperation with China.
The lecture, rich in detail and illustrated with vivid case studies, provided faculty and students with valuable insight into the national conditions and economic landscape of Belt and Road countries, and served as an important reference for research and teaching in related fields. The session was warmly received, with participants noting that it deepened their understanding of area studies and cross-border economic cooperation.
