President Lei Xingshan Attends Business College's "Youth Lunch Talk"
On the noon of April 22, the college hosted the "Youth Lunch Talk: Joining Hands for a Business Future" event, focusing on the theme of "How to Prepare for Postgraduate Entrance Exams (or Studying Abroad)." The activity was attended by Lei Xingshan, President of the University; Yang Xu, Deputy Director of the Presiden’s Office; Yin Fubin, Chair of the College Council; Jiang Jingjing, Dean of the College; as well as other faculty and staff members from the Dean’s Office and the Student Affairs Office. Also participating were seven student representatives from the graduating class preparing for postgraduate exams or studying abroad, along with representatives from the International Summer Session. The lunch talk was presided over by Zhao Fang, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee.
President Lei engaged in cordial conversations with the students, listening to their thoughts and interacting with them deeply. He praised their determination and outstanding achievements.
President Lei emphasised that the rate of further education is a key indicator of the quality of talent cultivation at the university, as well as being an important means of promoting the development of an academic and teaching ethos. He noted that preparing for postgraduate exams or studying abroad involves continuously challenging oneself, tempering one’s character, testing one’s perseverance, and ultimately experiencing growth and joy.
President Lei also highlighted that internships and practical experiences are crucial components of education and vital pathways to cultivating high-quality, application-oriented talent. Quoting the ancient saying, "Knowledge from books is shallow; true understanding comes from practice," he stressed that only through hands-on experience can theoretical knowledge be internalized into genuine ability and wisdom—the true essence of university education.
The lunch talk took place in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. The student representatives spoke freely, sharing how they had grown and developed through work placements, exam preparation, participation in the International Summer Session and social activities. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the university, college and faculty for their guidance and support, and also offered constructive feedback and suggestions.
The "Youth Lunch Talk" serves as a bridge for understanding students' pressing concerns and fostering communication between faculty and students. It is a key initiative in building a "warm and welcoming university" and has been held multiple times.
