Immersed in 3,000 Years of Currency: Business School Freshmen Kickstart Their Financial Journey at Museum
“Seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times. Visiting the China Numismatic Museum has given me a real understanding of the finance major.” Recently, the Business School of Beijing Union University organized all undergraduate freshmen from the Finance Department, Class of 2025, to visit the China Numismatic Museum for a study tour, collectively attending a major career lesson that integrates professional education, historical education, and ideological and cultural education.
This profession and career lesson, themed "Financial History and Career Enlightenment," aimed to help freshmen understand the history of Chinese currency, enhance their professional cognition, and establish career ideals through physical exhibits and professional explanations. It also guided students to comprehend China's development path, understand its systems, and strengthen financial confidence by exploring the grand evolution of Chinese currency.
Led by the museum's professional docents, the students visited exhibition areas such as "Ancient Chinese Currency," "Modern and Contemporary Financial Systems," and "The Development of the Renminbi." From shell money and copper coins to silver dollars and modern digital currency, the monetary changes spanning three thousand years not only represent a vivid economic history but also profoundly testify to the Chinese nation's relentless pursuit of unity, stability, and rejuvenation.
The visit was not just about "seeing the sights" but also about "pondering the principles." Combining their professional knowledge in finance, the students engaged in lively discussions on practical economic issues such as monetary policy and inflation. Abstract terminology became clear and tangible when verified against physical objects.
"Finance is the lifeblood of the national economy, crucial to the overall advancement of Chinese modernization." The homeroom teachers and professional instructors participating in the lesson actively discussed career development paths in the financial industry with the students, using the museum exhibits as references. They provided in-depth interpretations of the national will and institutional advantages behind currency, emphasizing that "financial professionals must understand economic laws and possess historical vision." Shuai Xuanyan, a freshman from the Class of 2025, said, "This visit gave us a more intuitive understanding of the financial industry. Currency is not just a medium of exchange; it is also a microcosm of economy and culture, and a symbol of culture and sovereignty. I hope to study finance more deeply in the future."
As a crucial part of the freshman orientation education, this professional career lesson deeply integrated professional initiation, career ideals, and value shaping through on-site study. It guided students to "fasten the first button" of their financial careers, helped them build a sense of professional identity, and laid a foundation for their future academic planning and career development.
The College would continue to deepen the collaborative education mechanism with the China Numismatic Museum, introducing the museum's high-quality exhibition resources to the campus to establish a regular learning platform for all students. Furthermore, it plans to carry out a series of career education activities, including industry mentor lectures, financial practice workshops, and alumni exchange forums, to cultivate new-era financial talents with both professional competence and a sense of national responsibility, firmly committed to the mission of national rejuvenation.
